La Chouette

La Chouette is a French cidre brand from the Mont-Saint-Michel bay in Normandy, one of the historic heartlands of French cider-making. It was started by Pierre-Henri Agnes, who returned to the cider-making tradition begun by his grandfather, together with business partner Alex Riteau. The brand takes its name — "la chouette" is French for "the owl" — from an owl that would arrive in his grandfather's barn during pressing and fermentation, taken as a good omen.

The ciders are made from a selection of French cider apples grown around Mont-Saint-Michel, produced and bottled in Normandy as pure apple juice cider with no concentrate, added sugar, colouring or flavouring. The range spans the classic Original, a drier Brut, and a Rosé blended from apples and red-fleshed apples and pears. La Chouette's ciders have taken gold medals at the World Cider Awards in both 2020 and 2021.
